Terri Mayes is a highly accomplished and respected executive who holds an impressive track record of driving business impact, collaborating to optimize efficiency and effectiveness, overcoming resistance, gaining enthusiastic buy-in as she works at all levels of an organization, and having boundless energy for driving organizational change.
Ms. Mayes is the first Regional Vice President in the Midwest for the National Diversity Council. In her role she provides leadership, strategic vision, organization, and administrative oversight for the IL, WI, and IN state diversity councils.
Prior to joining the NDC, Ms. Mayes served as vice president of talent, leadership, and organizational development for OfficeMax/Office Depot. In that newly developed role she was tasked with creating a strategic plan for and then executing the plan for the lifecycle of an employee including recruitment, on-boarding, training, career progression, and performance management. In addition, at the announcement of the 18-billion dollar merger between OfficeMax and Office Depot, Terri was named the lead for OfficeMax for the organizational talent work-stream with specific focus on talent retention, organizational design, selection process development, synergy achievement, and talent off-boarding.
Prior to this role, Ms. Mayes had a purposeful focus of having a diverse career at OfficeMax to better position herself to grow and bring value to the total organization. She served as vice president and brand manager of the Technology and Managed Print Services business for OfficeMax; an all-inclusive general management role for a combined $280-million dollar business. Her career included executive level roles in sales enablement, award winning contact center operations, as well as supply chain management for a 5-billion dollar fortune 500 organization.
Prior to joining OfficeMax, Ms. Mayes was a master-certified consultant and regional manager for Curtis and Associates, Inc. where she and her teams provided professional consulting and case management services to state and federal organizations focused on helping people to gain independence.
Ms. Mayes is a recognized people leader, passionate about mentoring and people development. She has a history of being recognized professionally and personally; including in 2012 by the Illinois Diversity Council as one of the state’s Most Powerful and Influential Women, among other awards. Mayes is the founder and president of Mayes Bridging Strategies, where she has leveraged her substantial business background to provide non-profits, corporations, and individual leaders strategic transformational services. She remains actively involved in the Illinois community by speaking on diverse talent, leadership, and engagement strategies at conferences and educational institutions.
Mayes has completed graduate level leadership studies at the University of Notre Dame –Mendoza College of Business and a holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Administration of Justice from the University of Wyoming. She has advanced training as a Leadership Coach through Excellero Leadership Studies and a certificate in Change Management through Prosci.
