One of the many challenges today’s job seekers encounter are screens employers use to select candidates who will be allowed to proceed with the interview process. Yet, seemingly highly qualified candidates often complain that they cannot penetrate the barriers companies often design to “pre-screen” candidates. Why is it that workers with established career tracks are suddenly “overqualified?” Why is it that hiring managers sometimes seek candidates with a “fresh look?” What happens when talent collides with “right fit?”

Mr. Larson discusses his observations on many current hiring practices and how stereotype bias may be a silent partner in the selection process, raising real issues with respect to diversity and inclusion and how awareness of these challenges can be a critical component in organizational development. Mr. Larson shares his thoughts as to how the hiring model may be improved to be more inclusive in its approach to quality candidates.
