Fernando LittleFernando manages diversity strategy execution and workplace inclusion efforts while developing and sustaining key cross-functional stakeholder relationships critical to the Diversity Agenda at Carolinas HealthCare System. Carolinas HealthCare System works to improve and enhance the overall health and wellbeing of its communities through high quality patient care, education and research programs, and a variety of collaborative partnerships and initiatives. Since 1940 Carolinas HealthCare System has grown into one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive systems, with more than 60,000 teammates and more than 7,800 licensed beds.
Prior to joining the Diversity and Inclusion team at Carolinas HealthCare System, Fernando served as a Human Resources Executive at Family Dollar Stores, Inc. with enterprise-wide responsibility for total rewards programs including executive compensation, base salary administration, incentive plans, and all rewards and recognition programs. Fernando also served on the Enterprise Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee. As a key contributor to the diversity strategy at Family Dollar, Fernando was instrumental in developing the Employee Resource Group framework and establishing the diversity pillars for the organization.

Fernando has served other Fortune 500 organizations in various Human Resources capacities. With over nine years of health care experience, Fernando is proud to have started his journey into health care at Carolinas HealthCare System in the Compensation Department. While in Compensation, Fernando was very instrumental in designing and implementing several incentive pay programs including the Key Employee Incentive Plan (KEIP). While serving as Executive Director of Human Resources for Mission Health System, Fernando led efforts to implement the “Mission and Me” health plan portal, launch the HR Direct Connect service center, and to re-engineer the human resources service delivery model.

Fernando has served as a Diversity Champion in his professional and civic affiliations.He has assisted in the development of diversity strategic plans for Appalachian State University, Mission Health, and Family Dollar Stores, Inc. He also continues to serve as an advisor to several organizations with a diversity and inclusion centered mission.

Fernando is a proud graduate of Appalachian State University where he currently serves on the Board of Visitors and the Diversity Scholarship Committee. Fernando also serves on the Chief Diversity Officers Roundtable for the Institute for Corporate Productivity and the Board of Pensions for the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Fernando is married to Tiffany. They have two children (Camren and Chandler) and they reside in Mint Hill, NC. They enjoy attending sporting events and hanging out at the Great Wolf Lodge.
